By joining forces to implement new patient safety efforts, this partnership will improve health care quality and reduce the overall cost of health care in Ohio. We are working to implement shared methods and processes to improve patient care and have chosen to focus on reducing surgical site infections (SSIs) and improving Medication Safety by reducing adverse drug events (ADEs).

What we are trying to accomplish for Surgical Site Infections:
- Pursue zero surgical site infections in designated cardiac, neurosurgery, orthopedic procedures
- Develop a unique bundle of care for each surgical procedure group
- Analyze present infection rate(s) and set an improvement target within 3 months for a specific period
What we are trying to accomplish for Medication Safety:
- Eliminate injury or harm to any child due to preventable adverse drug events by March 2012 (i.e., accomplish a 33% reduction each year for 3 years; initial focus opiate oversedations)
- Have ADE trigger tool methodology in place at all participating hospitals by January 2010
